Today was another (our 4th) successful day of Forklift Operator Familiarization School hosted at our Customer Experience and Training Center located just across the street from our Oklahoma City branch, at 4100 Will Roger's Parkway... another opportunity to serve 20+ Justice Impacted families in our local OKC community and what another incredible day it was!  Too cold to venture outside this time so we turned to none other than our - perfect for very narrow aisles and tight spaces, roomy enough for even your tallest operator, mighty enough to handle tough jobs both in door and outdoor, but get this- CAN DRIVE THROUGH A COMMERCIAL MAN DOOR, Mariotti to demonstrate the hands on portion of this forklift operator training.

HUGE SHOUT OUT to local Employer/ Recruiter, Mr. Logan with Locke Supply who always dedicates his saturday off to this great cause!

As always, SHOUT OUT to the beautiful Urban League of OKC volunteers that work with each non-violent offender prior to the class to update their resume, providing "mock interviewing" and career coaching.  They also supply free transportation to and from their OKC location to our Medley Customer Experience and Training Center through their Workforce and Career Development Program, as well as gift card to help purchase work boots to each student upon completion of the course.

We've become spoiled, in anticipation of the most unique, quality ingredients, freshly baked pizza from Eastside Pizza House! Off NE 23rd street, "The Place for Community" and where the names of their specialty pizza's have historical significance!!  The students are always surprised by the crust when they open the pizza box but those brave enough to try it, are instantly hooked!  You've got to check out the Jabee- always a crowd favorite!

As always, SHOUT OUT TO Jason Moore, Trainer III, Hyster Yale Training and Development, for another successful Operator School!  We absolutely could not Lift Up so many throughout our community without your support!

The success of this program simply would not be without the leadership of Medley Equipment Company and their Employees that "get" to volunteer for this cause.  Medley is always quick to volunteer their training facility, warehouse space and lift trucks Lifting Up So Many In Our Community, #AsOne.

Lifting Up Our Community

20 Students | 1 Day | Numerous Lives Changed

Three classes completed, 50 students trained, all have secured employment. To date, Medley Cares and The Urban League of OKC have partnered with the following Justice Impact Friendly Oklahoma employers to help connect skilled Forklift Operators with new careers:

Locke Supply | Kate Paciga, HR Director & Charmain Logan, Recruiter
MD Building Products | Joe Brantly, Recruiter
American Tissue | Joe Lakey, Plant Manager & Jeremy Stevens, HR Manager
Capital Distributing | Jordan Stahr, HR Manager
Malarkey Roofing | Katawna Scott, Shipping and Receiving Manager
Crest Foods | Kevin Ergenbright, Vice President

BIGGEST APPRECIATION to the amazing Urban League of OKC staff that selfishly shows up bright and early on a SATURDAY morning to serve our community!  They work tirelessly with each non-violent offender prior to the class helping them update their resume, providing "mock interviewing" and career coaching, building confidence as the reenter the workforce.  They also supply free transportation to and from their OKC location to our Medley Customer Experience and Training Center through their Workforce and Career Development Program, as well as gift card to help purchase work boots to each student upon completion of the course.

"It is truly an honor to get to be a part of these events. It was so wonderful to see the students encouraging each other and cheering each other on throughout the HOT day! But, the gentleman that invited his family to the certificate ceremony saying “finally, I’ve done something good, they can be proud of” was worth every single second that went into planning and collaborating on this impact.” I am so grateful our company allows us to Lift Up Our Community in this effort.”

"Yesterday’s training was different, but in a good way. For one it was on a Saturday and “off the clock”. It was a volunteer training I was asked to lead. What was the purpose? To help people gain the skills, knowledge, and training to help them get a foothold on their lives. We called it Forklift Operator School. We talked about forklifts and OSHA and stability and pre shift inspections and we put them in the trucks for some practical experience.

So how is that different? I was able to incorporate a talk about goals and dreams. We got to discuss a dream they had and help them forge a path of small goals to reach the ultimate goal. I had the room to share my faith and relate my story of how my lack of life skills and training had crippled me as a young man. It was one the hardest days of training in have participated in, but again in a good way. It allowed me to use every skill I have learned. How to be a leader, how to be a listener, how to be firm when needed and how to be patient, so very patient with the new operator. I was able to reflect on how every training class I’ve ever presented prior to this was different and how the vast majority of people I have trained to either be operators or trainers took it as just part of the day.

Yes, I have trained people who said “I learned so much today, and I can see how to make my classes better, thank you for showing me how to do that” and they have walked away with a feeling of excitement to make a change. I have seen operators loose the tension and fear of operating equipment and become comfortable and in turn say “thank you, this will help me to work towards promotions within my company”. Yesterday was different, but in a good way.

We conducted two classes and had a graduation ceremony at the end of each. During the second class a young man had his wife and baby sit in the office and wait. While she was waiting she requested a pencil and piece of paper and asked if someone would help her learn to write in cursive. We just happened to have a veteran school teacher volunteering that day and she is now going to meet this young lady and teach her. We had a middle aged man whose life has been full of not so great decisions ask if he could call his family when he learned he would be receiving recognition for his participation. His mother and family showed up to video his graduation from Forklift Operator School. He commented “This is the only good thing I’ve done in a long time”. His smile was the biggest I’ve ever seen and his sense of pride and accomplishment filled every empty space in the room.

Yes, I cried. Yesterday’s class was different but in a good way. Read More Here

Centeral Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity

April 15, 2023
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity New Construction Build

Each quarter, 10 employees at Medley Equipment Company partner with our neighborhood Charleston's to frame a house and job site clean up with the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity to make a positive impact and help build a stronger community.

This was such a great experience!  All but one of our team of 8 was female!  No Power tools!  Just hammers and nails!  We finished the project early and were even able to install the rafters and insulation!

Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity,” or helping to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership program. Sweat equity can also include taking homeownership classes or performing volunteer work in a Habitat ReStore.

Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage. Habitat makes a reasonable effort to ensure that an affordable mortgage does not exceed 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income. Mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build additional Habitat houses.

"This is not my fist time volunteering, but it was my first time with Regional Food Bank. Overall, this experience was awesome! I loved interacting with the other volunteers, and mostly I enjoyed helping others in need.  We learned that Oklahoma is the 5th hungriest state in the US. I don’t think this is talked about enough, I will be sure to pass this message along to friends, family, and coworkers. I would love to volunteer for RFB again to continue to help those with food insecurities!"   -C. Wynns

Each month, 6 employees at Medley Equipment Company volunteers at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to make a positive impact and help build a stronger community.

“Volunteering at the Food Bank was a fun yet humbling experience. Fun meeting and working alongside other volunteers from the community as well as bonding with co-workers. Humbling to realize how many in our community are hungry and need our help. Thankful for the Oklahoma Food Bank and other programs like it who fill that need. Proud to work for a company who encourages and supports their employees to participate in community outreach.” – M. VanBuskirk

“The experience I had volunteering at the food bank was so eye-opening. It’s crazy when you are there and doing what we did that you realize how many kids go without food/nutrition. It was so humbling and made my heart so happy. Lori and I worked at a table with a couple of little girls that were there giving their time as well. They were so fun and so into it. To know that children are helping children and having the first-hand experience in seeing these girls work diligently right beside us just I realize there is hope in making this world a much better place. I for one will be extending my personal time to volunteer when I can. Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have….”  – C. Shadrick

“I really enjoyed going, it was a great experience and would like to go again.”  – K. Lane
